Accounts Integration
We've focused on Sage due to it's popularity but other accounts packages also provide integration facilities similar to those described here.

Sage Accounts Integration

How could I benefit from integrating an external program with Sage Accounts?

Sage is an extremely popular accounts package but, like all programs, it has its limitations. "Integration" allows Sage to become the "accounting component" in a wider, more comprehensive solution that encompasses other business functions. Integration also allows developers to build on Sage's own feature set and provide external features and functionality not found in the standard product.

Avoid manual entry into Sage of Invoices created in another program Electronically send Sales Orders into Sage (Purchase Orders and Quotes too)
Using integration it is possible to electronically transfer invoices from an external system into Sage and completely remove the need to manually enter the details into Sage. The process can be batched (e.g. run daily or weekly) or "live" (e.g. as the original invoices are created). This means you easily create invoices the way you want to and keep your accounts up to date without any duplication of effort. Sometimes it is necessary to generate orders in a custom solution due to complexities or pricing structures that Sage cannot accommodate. Once an order is created in the custom solution it can be sent electronically to Sage and form part of Sage's Sales Order Processing and Stock Control. This makes it possible to create custom functionality externally where it is required but still benefit from Sage's key features.
Centrally manage Customer records that exist in more than one place Provide Account Status, Stock Availability and Order History at Point of Sale in a custom solution
When creating a customer focused solution (e.g. a sales or administration system) it is possible to synchronise the customer records with Sage's customer data so that you only need to add or amend customers details in one place. Changes in one system can be automatically rippled through to the other and new accounts can be added simply and quickly including automatic assignment of customer account references. In a telesales environment Sage integration can provide operators with important account information within their contact management or CRM system without them having direct access to Sage. For example, a customer record can display the current Customer Account Status and even an Aged Balance so operators don't call accounts placed On Hold. Integration can also display stock prices and availability plus previous order history, all instantly on screen without having to look it up or access Sage directly.
Sage Sales Order Processing doesn't suit you but it's invoicing, stock control and account management is vital Central consolidation of Invoices created in multiple remote locations
It is possible to create custom solutions that do fit your business process and then use integration to send the appropriate details to Sage so that you can still utilise the Sage features that are most important to you. For example, a custom solution will provide the framework to handle your sales order process then, at the appropriate point in time, create a Sage invoice and update Sage's stock control. Some organisations have multiple locations that generate invoices locally and send them to head office for consolidation. Integration can provide an automated facility to collect, validate and import invoices from multiple locations into a central accounts system.
